August 11, 2009
The Summer Issue of the Infant Crier is out. Members may view the full Summer Issue as a member benefit using member password! Non-members are invited to read Joan Shirilla's column, "Back to Basics," with thoughtful comments about infant mental health practice from three people who worked with Selma Fraiberg - Bill Schafer, Doug Davies and Barry Wright.
The new editor of The Crier is Jennifer DeSchryver, PsyD. The theme of the next 3-4 issues is "Keeping the Baby in Mind." There is a fine article by Carla Barron who discusses this concept with a focus on a clinical case. There is a "Back to Basics" column by Joan Shirilla who shares several peoples' perspectives on "What is infant mental health?" There is a teaching case presented by Marcie Kansou. Excerpts illustrating infant mental health home visitng will be presented in each issue, with study questions following each case report. An early childhood mental health consultant, Emily Kleinglass, writes about her own evolution as an early childhood mental health consultant and supervisor who has evolved to be able to "hold others as they hold others." The final submission is written by Diversity Fellow, Patricia Avelini, "Diversity Matters."
