The mission of the Michigan Association for Infant Mental Health is to promote the social and emotional well being of babies and their families. To accomplish this goal, the organization's body of work includes professional training and supervision, parent education materials, advocacy, and research related to the infant, early childhood and family community.
Key activities sponsored by MI-AIMH in 2006 included:
- The development of an award winning, nationally recognized, competency based system of professional endorsement for infant and eary childhood service providers in Michigan and other states Specialized infant mental health trainings for over 200 service providers working in a variety of settings including health, mental health, child welfare and childcare
- A two-year Diversity Leadership Fellowship to promote greater diversity within the field of infant mental health
- The organization of new supervision groups for over 50 professionals specializing in infant mental health
- Collaboration with the Children's Trust Fund, state departments and agencies to plan a 3-day, state-wide conference for over 600 participants, "Supporting Families with Infants, Toddlers & Young Children"
- The development and sale of over 800,000 social and emotional learning tools for parents and professionals working with infants, toddlers and young children
- The ownership of an internationally recognized publication, the Infant Mental Health Journal, published by Wiley, Inc., with over 980 subscribers
