MI-AIMH Endorsement (IMH-E®): Overview

MI-AIMH has launched a new web-based site to manage membership and endorsement renewal.  It's called My MI-AIMH.  It launched later than we'd hoped, so we are extending the renewal deadlines to Feb 28.

To renew your endorsement (by entering training and supervision from calendar year 2013), go to https://my.mi-aimh.org, and click on "Create a New Profile."  My MI-AIMH will show you your membership status and expiration date and has tabs to enter the training hours and reflective supervision hours that are required to renew endorsement annually.  It will also prompt you to renew your membership if it has expired.

In case there is confusion, MI-AIMH now has four on-line "spaces" for different services:

1.  MI-AIMH.org (this website) for news, training dates, endorsment infomation, and articles from The Infant Crier

2.  Our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Michigan-Association-for-Infant-Mental-Health for interesting links, stories, and action alerts

3. EASy (Endorsement Application System) at https://easy.mi-aimh.org  to apply for the MI-AIMH Endorsement®

4.  My MI-AIMH for membership and endorsement renewals and, coming soon, networking with colleagues

On July 12, 2013, we recorded a webinar for group interested in learning about the MI-AIMH Endorsement and how to go about applying to earn it. This link allows you to view the 60 minute session, if this would be interesting to you!

Please note that as of January 1, 2013, MI-AIMH is no longer accepting preliminary applications on paper.  Anyone who begins the endorsement process on or after January 1, 2013 must use EASy to apply (see below).  MI-AIMH will accept applications on paper only for those who submitted a paper preliminary application by December 31, 2012.  If you’ve already submitted a paper preliminary application and would like to switch over to EASy, please contact Nichole Paradis at nparadis@mi-aimh.org to avoid paying a preliminary/registration fee twice.

Apply for MI-AIMH Endorsement® on-line by going to https://easy.mi-aimh.org/

EASy is a web-based system for creating, submitting, and reviewing Endorsement applications.  If you would like to begin your application for endorsement, click on "Register" under "New Applicant."  We strongly recommend that you use a personal email address as many health and mental health organization email servers often reject the messages that are sent to you by our new system.  We also strongly recommend that you use a desktop or laptop computer; EASy is not supported for use on iPads or other mobile devices.

The registration process asks for the same basic information that you would have provided on a paper preliminary application.  Once we receive notification that you've registered, confirmed that your MI-AIMH membership is current, and confirmed payment of your preliminary application fee (done when you register), we "accept" your application.  Next, you'll receive an email from EASy with a username and password.  You can log in and out of  your application any time and from any place where you have a computer with an internet connection.  There is a in-system "Help" tool and messaging option that allows you to ask questions along the way.

Endorsement Overview

The intent of the MI-AIMH Endorsement (IMH-E®) is to recognize and document the development of infant and family professionals within an organized system of culturally sensitive, relationship-based, infant mental health learning and work experiences. Endorsement by the Michigan Association for Infant Mental Health (MI-AIMH) will verify that an applicant has attained a level of education as specified, participated in specialized in-service trainings, worked with guidance from mentors or supervisors, and acquired knowledge to promote the delivery of high quality, culturally sensitive, relationship-focused services to infants, toddlers, parents, other caregivers and families. The MI-AIMH Endorsement (IMH-E®) will provide information of significant benefit to employers, referral sources, and the courts seeking expert witnesses related to the social and emotional development of infants and young children and their families. Of additional importance, the MI-AIMH Endorsement (IMH-E®) will be useful in developing individual professional development plans.

Why earn the MI-AIMH Endorsement®?

"I have the Level I MI-AIMH Endorsement®.  As a nursing diploma graduate (1967), I was experience rich and credential poor.  I have found that the endorsement has given me greater credibility with my employer and professional colleagues.  Further, the credentialing process encouraged me to continue my education to fill the gaps in my praciticing knowledge.  In 2003, I earned my Associate's Degree and in 2006 I earned my BA.  I am in the process of applying for MI-AIMH endorsement at Level II with plans to earn my Master's degree and continue to move up the endorsement ladder."

-Sandy Bump Lownds, IMH-E® (I)  Infant Family Associate moved to Level II in 2007

"The MI-AIMH Endorsement® has opened a whole new world for me regarding infants and toddlers.  The process itself, especially the reflective supervision, has strengthened my personal and professional development.  This reflective supervision has given me a stronger base from which to work, allowing me to integrate my expanding knowldege of best practice and research into my growing ability to really see, hear, feel and be with the families I serve as an early intervention teacher."

-Marian Ohriel, IMH-E® (II)  Infant Family Specialist moved to Level III in 2007

"To be endorsed by MI-AIMH is, for me, a commitment to an organization that has nurtured me in my own professional infancy and has had immense influence in the way I am able to be with and connect with the families and professionals with whom I work.  MI-AIMH's commitment to infants, toddlers, families and to those who work with them is remarkable and it is a privilege to be endorsed and recognized by such an organization."

-Carla Barron, IMH-E® (III) Infant Mental Health Specialist moved to Level IV in 2008

"Endorsement as an Infant Mental Health Mentor, Level IV says to others that knowedgeable support for infant-family work they do can be readily offered by me.  I have also had a prosecuting attorney use the Endorsement credential to support my testimony as an expert witness."

-Sheryl Goldberg, IMH-E® (IV) Infant Mental Health Mentor

Steps to apply for the MI-AIMH Endorsement® via EASy (on-line)

1.  Registration

To begin your endorsement application, go to https://easy.mi-aimh.org/ and click on the "Register" button.  It is strongly recommended that you register using a personal email address (e.g., gmail, yahoo, hotmail, etc).  Employer email servers often block messages sent by the EASy system.  Registration requires you to provide brief information about your specialized education, work, and reflective supervision/consultation experiences.  You will be asked to pay a registration fee (formerly known as the Preliminary Application Fee) via PayPal using a credit card.  Fees can be found in the table above; the fee primarily covers the cost of the MI-AIMH Competency Guidelines book, which is mailed to new applicants.

Registration Fees:

Infant Family Associate (Level I) - $15

Infant Family Specialist (Level II) - $20

Infant Mental Health Specialist (Level III) - $25

Infant Mental Health Mentor (Level IV) - $25

2.  Preparation of a Professional Application

Once the registration information and fee have been received and your MI-AIMH membership has been confirmed, EASy will email a username and password.  You may then log in, as often as necessary and from any computer with an internet connection, to build your application on-line.  The professional application reflects the applicant's capabilities within the infant and family field as identified for each level of endorsement.

EASy will ask you to electronically "sign" the MI-AIMH Code of Ethics and Endorsement Agreement.  You will list your specialized education, in-service training*, and reflective supervision/consultation experiences**.  You will be asked to list the names and email addresses for the 3 individuals who will complete reference rating form on your behalf.  EASy sends an email to each reference rater; the whole process is done electronically.  Please ask your reference raters for a personal email address so they will receive the secure link to complete the form on EASy.

If questions come up while using EASy, there is a "Help" button on the top right.  Applicants can indicate whether the issue is technical or related to the endorsement process.  There are also comment sections on most pages where applicants can ask questions or leave remarks.

EASy replaces the E-form for MI-AIMH Endorsement® and all other paper documents that were formally used to create a portfolio.

*30 hours of specialized in-service training are requited at all levels.  Eligible specialized in-service training meets the following criteria:

**Applicants for Level II, III, and IV-Clinical include information about the provider and nature of reflective supervision/consultation experiences.  Please refer to the Best Practice Guidelines for Reflective Supervision/Consultation for additional information about which experiences qualify toward endorsement.

3.  Submission

Once the application is complete (all sections completed, reference ratings complete, transcripts uploaded by MI-AIMH), the applicant may hit the Submit button that appears on his/her EASy dashboard.  The Endorsement Processing Fee will be paid via PayPal.  Endorsement Processing Fees are indicated below:

Endorsement Processing Fees:

Infant Family Associate (Level I) - $25

Infant Family Specialist (Level II) - $100

Applications are reviewed quarterly.  For information about submission date deadlines, go to here.

4.  Application Review

MI-AIMH reviews applications on a quarterly basis.  Level I & Level II applicants receive an endorsement decision after at least two application review committee members examine and approve the application.  Level III & Level IV applicants move on to a written exam after at least two application review committee members examine and approve. MI-AIMH offers the written exam twice a year, usually in March and September.  Please go here for details related exam dates.
